JIBREEL: Anti-Imperialist Middle-Eastern Blackened Death Metal

Born in Tunis and now based in Milan, Ouassim Amdouni uses music as resistance through Jibreel – an amalgamation of Middle Eastern music and blackened death metal.

The debut single “Alhowa” harnesses the grandiosity of Behemoth or Demonic Resurrection with the folk-fusion of Myrath and Ignea.

I can only imagine that Ouassim’s life in North Africa was the catalyst of the regional instrumentation used, as well as the anti-colonial messaging in the video and lyrics. In today’s increasing presence of unnecessary war and power dynamics between countries, the spirit of Jibreel is so necessary.
