Album of the Month (Gold Tier)

Killsorrow

Wasteland Chronicles

Self-Released

Poland

Emerging as a radioactive Cronenberg mutation of second wave metalcore, melodeath, and prog is the Kraków hellhound, Killsorrow. Former Voodoo vocalist Piotr Ogonowski brings diversity and drama to the intoxicating heavy fumes on their third album titled Wasteland Chronicles, a musical noir drenched in post-apocalyptic theme. Steampunk riffs ring out in wartorn songs of fallout survivalism, making for an overall riveting escape from modern society.

Wasteland Chronicles by Killsorrow is awarded Best Album of the Month (Gold Tier) for November 2023

Favorite Songs: “Eyes,” “Parasite Symphony,” “Finest Day to Die”

FFO: Avenged Sevenfold, In Flames, Haken

Album of the Month (Silver Tier)

Kill the King

Kill the King

Self-Released

India

No frills, no fucking around. Kill the King is as cut-throat aggressive and anti-authoritarian as their name implies. Sweaty fingers grip the executioner’s axe hovering above socio-political flaws such as class disparity, government corruption through pure thrash. Boasting growls by Pritam Goswami Adhikary (Aarlon, The Second Forvea) and riffs from Aditya Swaminathan (Demonic Resurrection), this debut self-titled record certainly will be on our minds as one of the most notable thrashers of the years.

Album of the Month (Bronze Tier)

Noprophecy

As the Bridge Collapses

Released via Rockshots Records

Singapore

Melodic metalcore has been riding the popularity wave for a solid decade, to the point where the subgenre is reaching oversaturation. While Noprophecy presents a handful of arena vocal hooks, their venomous screams and intensity allow them to stand-out in the scene’s current overproduced state. As the Bridge Collapses is perfect for those who yearn to both throw down in the pit and sing along.

As the Bridge Collapses by Noprophecy is awarded Best Album of the Month (Bronze Tier) for November 2023

Favorite Songs:Ghost of Yesterday,” “Voices,” “Broken

FFO: Erra, Wage War, August Burns Red

Album of the Month (Honorable Mentions)

Tetragrammacide – Typho-Tantric Aphorisms from the Arachneophidian Qur’an

India

With esotericism overflowing off the lengthy song titles and erotically compelling album artwork, an avant-garde collage of blackened extreme noise reaches dangerous depths.

Listen to “Nuit Arches over the Neither-Neither City of Cubes; Hadit Meditates while Hanging Upside Down Inside a Tesseract-Ka’aba

Angra – Cycles of Pain

Brazil

Although power metal isn’t my cup o’ tea, the pioneering Brazilians douse their heaviness with progginess in an exceptionally enjoyable and Immortal Guardian-like fashion on their tenth full-length.

Listen to “Ride into the Storm

Tariot – Drag Me to Hell

Singapore

Some of the strangest concoctions of noise and melody are spewing out of the modern metalcore scene, with Tariot joining the qualities of Silent Planet, Tallah, or Spiritbox.

Single / Video of the Month

Manapart “Roombaya”

Armenia

While comparisons will be made to System of a Down due to the peculiar rhythm changes and vocal deliveries, Manapart‘s experimental and oriental-infused take on alt-metal is profound beyond their influences. This latest single refers to a “spiritual ritual of soul liberation through shamanic dance around sacred fire,” a fitting concept to match the Eastern percussion smattered through the energetic piece. Not only is “Roombaya” an absolute hit, but I anticipate success on the horizon for this forward-thinking act.

“Roombaya” by Manapart is awarded Best Single / Video of the Month for November 2023
