What Does “Barracuda” by HEART Sound Like Modernized in New Zealand?

After success from hits like “Crazy on You” and “Magic Man,” Seattle-based hard rockers Heart kept their momentum on the album titled Little Queen, in 1977. The aforementioned album held the heavy metal riff salad “Barracuda.”

Fast forward to 2024, a band is gaining attention in the local rock / metal scene of Hamilton, New Zealand. Devilskin consists of vocalist Jennie Skulander (Slipping Tongue), guitarist Nail Vincent (Chuganaut), bassist Paul Martin (World War Four) and drummer Nic Martin. The four-piece recently unveiled their cover of Heart‘s “Barracuda.” And honestly? It’s nearly identical to the 1977 version. Props to Skulander for those vocal pipes and I hope we hear more of the band’s core identity in the next effort.

Devilskin are currently embarking on their We Rise 10th Anniversary Tour alongside Skinny Hobos and Tadpole with Emma Dilemma.
