Avast!
Earlier this year, the Greek duo of multi-instrumentalists Elina Englezou (Goditha) and Bob Katsionis (ex-Firewind) unveiled an epic, nautical metal opera titled Ghosts of the Sea. The symphonic and power metal blend throughout the record is lifted higher with a cast of some of the most applauded vocalists in the Greek metal scene as well as The Fantasy Choir.
Ghosts of the Sea‘s cast includes Yiannis Papanikolaou (Diviner) as Captain Silas Hawk, Stratis Steele (Endomain) as Quartermaster Ian Smythe, Marios Karanastasis (The Silent Wedding) as First Mate Pete Glynn, Christos Kounelis (Disharmony) as Navigator Mister Thomas Knox, Mike Livas (Silent Winter) as Demon Vythos, Iliana Tsakiraki (Enemy of Reality) as Siren Thelxie, and Fany Melfi performing as the Sea Witch Nerissa.
Fans of Visions of Atlantis, Running Wild, or Xandria will be bewildered on the adventurous pirate metal journey, coated in scurvy-laden guitar riffs, mutiny-driven vocal harmonies, and an immersive ocean-swaying atmosphere.
Is there a certain campiness to the whole pirate metal shtick? Absolutely. But if you embrace the energy of a crew of dirty men on a wooden ship trekking across the sea in search foe treasure, you’re bound for a good time.
