Folk-Thrash-Death Metal For Mayan Culture: “Kukulkán Wakah Chan” by CEMICAN

One of the finest folk metal bands representing Aztec and Mayan culture, Cemican hails from Guadalajara, Mexico. Frontman Tecuhtli alongside Tlipoca, Ocelotl, Mazatecpatl, Yei Tochtli, Xaman Ek, and Itzcoatl will be entering the studio to record the follow-up to In Ohtli Teoyohtica In Miquiztli. You can expect the forthcoming record to drop in the Summer of 2025 via M-Theory Audio.

With the thrash and death metal intensity of Slayer or Amon Amarth and the folk-fusion alike The Hu and Heilung, their new single “Kukulkán Wakah Chan” is enchanting and rich. The Jobo Panteras-directed flaunts the group’s striking visuals and dancers including Eduardo Ramírez Maestro, Mario Ramírez Maestro, and Ramón Becerra Hernández

In the language of Nahuatl, the song sings out, “in the wind, the serpent awakens, Kukulkan reborn, dancing shadow and light; among the pyramids, his power is unleashed, the whisper of the gods, in my heart beats.”

Cemican will be spreading their sound to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honduras, El Salvador, and Costa Rica next June.
