Within the Transylvanian city of Sibiu, the Romanian band Doomsday Astronaut is summoning nostalgia and hooks, leaving me in awe. Their mesh of progressive, groove metal and grunge has led to performing at the annual German festival Waken last year – winning the Metal Battle international competition.
Running off the momentum of their performance to the masses, the four-piece have just unveiled their best single yet. “Enemy” is a culmination of Audioslave, Lamb of God, A Perfect Circle, and Vola. It’s the perfect dose of late 90’s vocal powerhouse with early 2000’s radio metal and modern djent energy.
Huge props to the huge melodies by frontman Waqas Ahmed; each vocal hook is instant infection. Instrumentalists Marius Stremtan, Andy Dragomir, and Victor Bodea also elevate the song to impressive heavy and proggy heights.
Stay tuned for their upcoming album titled Origins in early 2026…
