For nearly a decade, the Mongolian act The Hu have been fusing folk instrumentation with heavy rock / metal on an international level. Both of their albums have charted across Europe, a couple of their singles have gone gold, and they’ve collaborated with the likes of Serj Tankian of System of a Down and William DuVall from Alice in Chains. Damn, they’ve even had exclclusive music featured in the Star Wars Jedi video game series.
Before Muse took the Hellfest main stage, the Ulaanbaatar-based eight-piece performed eleven songs including unreleased material and a cover of Iron Maiden‘s “The Trooper.”
What are the instruments they’re playing? Well, the band has a collection of morin khuur, tumur hhuur, and tsuur. Oh, and throat singing aplenty.
