The Band That Introduced Me to Indian Metal is Back!

Nearly a decade ago, I was introduced to the Kolkata-based modern heavy group called What Escapes Me. I hadn’t yet discovered the greatness of many international metal scenes, particularly the Indian scene, so this was the first domino to fall before going down the inevitable rabbit hole other Indian metal notables from Demonic Resurrection to Sitar Metal. What Escapes Me planted the seed that would become the concept for Metal Has No Borders, focusing on metal music from all regions of the world.

In 2016, their Egress Point album was a solid progressive metalcore / djent debut, fitting for fans of Periphery and Erra or even Avenged Sevenfold, while also infusing South Asian folk instrumentation like the sarod and sarengi. A few years later, they dropped the chuggy, corrosive “In Insanity” single. Then… after six long years, we finally have new material.

Mixed and mastered by Adam Bentley (Arch Echo), “Born From Fire” marks a new beginning, a new era. The current lineup of Shourav Dey, Arindam Sen, Sayan Ghosh, and Sambit Chatterjee have critically shifted to a more polished, yet nü / industrial approach, akin to Northlane, bordering on a Bad Omens or Linkin Park accessibility. And damn, that chorus is catchy and empowering.

Check out the video for the single now, created by Remo Mondal (Eeshaan, D’errors, The Local Pharmacy).
