There’s something so inspiring about witnessing a music scene blow up. From the grunge sound of Seattle to New York’s output of hardcore punk, each regional scene has a purpose.
Now, it’s time we turn our attention to the growing number of ski-mask and streetwear hardcore acts blending nü metalcore, beatdown, and deathcore within Prague, Czech Republic.
Abbie Falls
Balancing vulnerability, ferocity, and unhinged humor in their hard af metalcore, members Tomáš Klár, Lukáš Děkanovský, Vojta Pačesný (Seeing Things), Adam Karásek, and Patrik Macháček (Seeing Things) form the Prague-based Abbie Falls. Since 2018, the group has been making laps in the European festival circuit, collaborated with contemporaries Breakdown of Sanity, and toured alongside Allt, Distant, Extortionist, Necrotted, and Defocus. The new “Black Void” music video is beyond hysterically heavy, but their “Victim” single has one of the nastiest and ridiculous breakdowns of this year.
FFO: Thrown, Kublai Khan, Alpha Wolf
No Face No Case
Known for donning ski masks, this debaucherous gang of Prague is the gnarliest shit in Central Europe right now. No Face No Case‘s hit single “Flex Fiesta” has garnered 7 million streams, spawning an annual festival of other like-minded nü-core beatdown bands. Just earlier this year, they hopped on a European tour with Boundaries and Varials earlier this year. Considering their handful of collaborations and modern style, these guys are the epicenter of new hardcore.
FFO: Within Destruction, Slay Squad, PeelingFlesh
Silent Generation
Formed in 2015, Silent Generation‘s decade-long path of street nü-beatdown could be to blame for birthing the sound and look of the current Prague scene. It’s been a few years since we’ve received new material from the 5-piece, but their most recent singles like “Arson,” “80Hate,” “Rewind,” and “One Shot Lay Flat” sound as modern as ever. They’ve previously shared the stage with Ingested, Rings of Saturn, Distant, and Mental Cruelty, yet also just performed at the Slovakian Bordel Na Dunaji festival, featuring headliners Crystal Lake, Attila, Within Destruction, and Imperial Triumphant.
FFO: Bodysnatcher, Signs of the Swarm, Darko
Stru66led
Up-and-coming, self-proclaimed femboy hardcore group Stru66led is dark, emotional, and… barbers? Vocalist Martin Krátoška co-owns the barber/tattoo shop Die Hard alongside bandmates Petr Bažík and Martin Buřič. Also, their drummer Veronika Kaletova is only 15; insanity.
FFO: The Acacia Strain, Spite, Psycho-Frame
