Contra Bass consists of vocalist Daria Kolyada (15), guitarist Kosenko Hlib (14), bassist Desyatniuk Andriy (14), and drummer Kosenko Polina (14). Despite their young age, this Ukrainian four-piece rock / metal act is fucking top-notch.
Just this year, they’ve dropped three DIY, yet fairly legit music videos for some compelling singles: “Dance of Sansara,” “Grasp,” and “Myself,” showcasing everything from alt-rock and sludge to hardcore and nü metal. Daria’s lush melodies and growls are genuinely impressive and on-par with Kittie, while the instrumental section is so groovy and tight. They’d be a perfect opening act for their contemporaries Jinjer or 0%Mercury.
It’s also crazy to realize the band formed back in 2017, where some members were well under ten years old. Since then, Contra Bass have been honing their craft, appearing on Ukraine’s Got Talent to cover Ozzy Osbourne and Deep Purple. Additionally, the band has performed multiple charity shows in Poland and their home country to raise funds for Ukrainian defense and children.
