Based in Minsk, Belarus, Essence of Datum is an instrumental prog duo of Dmitry Ramanouski (guitars) and Pavel Vilchytski (drums). They just recently put out their LP Spellcrying Machine via Season of Mist. On the album, Dmitry Ramanouski (guitars), Peter Marakov (bass), and Pavel Vilchytski (drums) are also featured as recording musicians throughout the record’s seven tracks.
While staying true to the prog identity, the material on this LP explores many styles resulting in a mishmash of Marty Friedman, Russian Circles, Devin Townsend, Tool, etc. The project stirs traits of progressive metal, post-metal, ambience, 80’s speed nostalgia, sludge, acoustic, black metal, and more into this righteous, shreddy brew.
