Death Metal Album of the Year (Gold Tier)

Demonstealer
The Propaganda Machine
Released via Black Lion Records
India
Standing on a prestigious two decades of metal, Sahil Makhija (Demonic Resurrection, Reptilian Death, Solus Ex Inferis) delivers a superb fourth solo record under his moniker Demonstealer. While there are over ten notable guests featured on these eight tracks, highlights include bassist Kilian Duarte (Scale the Summit, Fallujah, Abiotic), drummer James Payne (Kataklysm, Hiss from the Moat), and keyboardist Anabelle Iratni (Cradle of Filth). With an insane abundance of virtuosity on deck, The Propaganda Machine runs the heaviness gamut with great confidence and a lyrical theme of great significance. No matter what country you reside in, The Propaganda Machine is a call-to-arms for the proletariat, a war cry for revolution, and a fist-clenched around political division and disparity.
The Propaganda Machine by Demonstealer is awarded Best Death Album of the Year (Gold Tier) for 2023
Favorite Songs: “The Anti-National,” “Monolith of Hate,” “The Great Dictator”
FFO: Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hypocrisy, The Black Dahlia Murder
Death Metal Album of the Year (Silver Tier)

Structural
Decrowned
Released via ViciSolum Productions
Israel
Five years since their debut titled Metacognition, Structural return with Decrowned, recorded alongside Yonatan Kossov (Amorphis, Orphaned Land), Elidor Mada (Andrelamusia), and Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy, Shadow of Intent). This record exudes the superior conglomeration of tech-death, modern djent, and melodic death metal. While there are wild moments where Meshuggah grooves emerge or a Born of Osiris guitar lead rings out, Structural sounds more raw and visceral than modern progcore. A colossal applaud is owed to this record for such extremely commendable guitarwork and overall compelling diversity.
Decrowned by Structural is awarded Best Death Metal Album of the Year (Silver Tier) for 2023
Favorite Songs: “My Grass is Greener,” “And the Earth has Rested,” “White Lilly”
FFO: Allegaeon, Soreption, Decapitated
Death Metal Album of the Year (Bronze Tier)

Torture Squad
Devilish
Released via Time to Kill Records
Brazil
Torture Squad has consistently churned out solid death-thrash material since the 90’s and their new Devilish effort is boasting a more progressive intellect in their venomous bite. A shift to include latin rhythms and symphonic elements interlaced with lyrical themes from mental illness to video games prove the band’s stamina and lack of stylistic stagnancy. With features including Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) on “Buried Alive,” a plea for Amazonian preservation on “Uatumã,” and an overall non-restraint in the name of aggression throughout, the ninth LP by Torture Squad beckons thrash, death, and prog headbangers worldwide.
