Led into the forests of Białystok by mastermind Łukasz Sarnacki (aka Icanraz), the atmospheric and progressive black metal pouring out of Coming Out is full of emotion and deprivation. Now revamped in English and including two additional tracks, the Theogonia Records-released Love & Hate Diaries version begs to serenade you with chaos.
The intro piece “King for a Day…” wraps the noose of suspense around your neck with Behemothesque attitude. A sharp avant-garde turn emerges on the following track “Fading Away” as if Sigh met Ihsahn on the battlefield, while “Uncertainty” reveals Enslaved influence.
Side B of the record urges for an even further experimental, melodic, and atmospheric identity. Although moments on “Withering” feel to pull at the doom or prog fans a la Katatonia, the album closer “…Fool for a Lifetime” boasts Łukasz’s truly creative blackened songwriting at its finest.
Overall, Coming Out – Love & Hate Diaries is a grim, yet worthy listen. Ukć has made a genuine mark in the progressive black metal halls and we hope to hear further vulnerability in future material.
