In 2022, breakthrough Indian folk-groove metal act Bloodywood released their praiseworthy debut album titled Rakshak. In promotion of the charting record, the band headlined a couple tours in the US alongside Vended and Wargasm as well as made appearances at Hellfest, Louder Than Life, Download Fest, Welcome to Rockville, Aftershock, etc.
As there’s been music anticipation towards a follow-up, band members Jayant Bhadula, Karan Katiyar, and Raoul Kerr hosted a livestream to discuss upcoming plans. “We’ve been very hard at work on our next album. I’m very happy to tell you that we’re very close to finishing it. We actually just finished the final mix and master of the first song from that album,” stated Karan. “We plan to release it by early 2025.”
A unique factor of Bloodywood‘s music is their fusion of Indian classical music with metal, so it was unveiled that the forthcoming album will include new instrumentation such as the sitar, harmonium, and a flute variant. Additionally, they revealed there is a collaboration planned as well as tour dates in the US, Europe, India, and Australia in the works.
Lastly, a notable moment during the livestream was when they were asked about their views on Palestine, to where Karan responded, “If you know this about India, we’re a country that has suffered genocide, very recently. We in no way can ever support genocide.” In most mainstream media, the situation in Palestine is being labeled as a “conflict” or “war,” so it’s so important to hear and normalize the word “genocide” when referring to the severe amounts of recent Palestinian deaths.
