Easily the most underrated act to bloom out of the Indonesian metal scene would be Voice of Baceprot, consisting of frontwoman Firda Kurnia, bassist Widi Rahmawati, and drummer Euis Siti Aisah, often wearing battle jackets and hijab.
Although it might be tough to replicate the significance of their debut album RETAS, “Mighty Island” is a solid transition single as we anticipate their upcoming album via Dark Anthem Records. With a grungy, groovy alt-metal sound, the new song paints Voice of Baceprot as the perfect opener for System of a Down or Kittie.
Alike Gojira, the group takes a more aggressive approach towards man’s affliction on nature in the single’s lyrical message. Loosely translated from Indonesian, the band offers “Clearly, ‘Mighty Island’ was created to describe the destruction of nature caused by human actions, such as the corrupt acts towards forests and green lands, marine pollution, poaching, and other reckless human behaviors that absolutely support the climate crisis. The emphasis on the word ‘Island’ in the title of the song is intended as a symbol of bitterness, that the earth, which was once beautiful, sturdy, and a source of various lives, is now being eroded by the greed of the rulers, and the people’s indifference to the barbaric exploitation under economic pretexts, as well as the greed of despotic businessmen who have superpower to mess up environmental regulations.”
