If you haven’t heard of them yet, it’s time to crawl out from under that rock. The Hu is an exceptional act, using throat singing as well as Mongolian instrumentation such as the morin khuur and tovshuur to propel their folk metal jams. The Ulaanbaatar-based group recently dropped a new EP – The Trooper… okay, upon further digging, the “EP” appears to be an Iron Maiden cover, followed by five already released songs.
Does it seem like The Hu are milking their 2022 release Rumble of Thunder material a bit? Yeah, but… I respect that push to get more attention on their collaborations with the likes of Serj Tankian from System of a Down, Alice in Chains‘ William DuVall, and LP. Anyways, back to the main entrée!
Back in 1983, British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden unveiled “The Trooper,” easily one of the band’s biggest singles. While other groups like Stryper and Iced Earth have covered the pioneering track, The Hu‘s rendition is easily the most unique.
Coincidentally, the Mongolian and British metal acts are on tour together throughout North America. They have already blessed the metalheads of San Diego, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, but they have plenty more dates coming up…
