The Best Metal Singles of January 2025 – New Zealand Folk-Groove, Estonian Nü-Metalcore, Singaporean Metalcore

We’re starting the year off strong, catchy and diverse. With heavy, extreme, and melodic metal music created from every region of the world, Metal Has No Borders as curated the most notable singles to drop this past month.

From New Zealand and Estonia to Singapore, discover our picks below.

Bronze Tier: Metal Single of the Month – January 2025

Tariot

“Fragments”

Released via Out of Line Music

Based in Singapore

On par with modern metalcore big names like Make Them Suffer and Loathe, Aravin V (vocals), Gab (guitar; Error, Hex), Hashmeer (guitar), and Bruce (drums) represent the Singaporean metalcore sound in Tariot. “Fragments” churns forth with heavy hyperpop guitar riffs and sharp deathcore vocals. The callout of the year so far is given to the “cover me in shards!” line.

FFO: Silent Planet, Lorna Shore, Erra

Silver Tier: Metal Single of the Month – January 2025

Pridian

“Out for Blood”

Released via Century Media Records

Based in Tartu, Estonia

It’s still difficult to wrap my mind around the fact that Century Media – who holds icons Suicide Silence and Humanity’s Last Breath – scooped up Estonian metalcore act Pridian. This seems like their moment, and the electro-metalcore singles that they’ve been delivering lately is spot-on. “Out For Blood” has that insanely heavy, but could maybe play on the radio at 1am sound.

FFO: 3teeth, Filter, Code Orange

Gold Tier: Metal Single of the Month – January 2025

Alien Weaponry

“Mau Moko”

Released via Napalm Records

Based in Waipu, New Zealand

“Mau Moko” is perfect – catchy metal hooks and riffs; the vocal harmonies between Henry and Lewis de Jong and Tūranga Morgan-Edmonds are emotional warcries. With the New Zealand Maori-infused groove metal trio’s style of their past two albums still hitting hard, I’m pretty excited to hear more from their upcoming Te Rā. Also, shout-out to the beautiful facial tattoo moko centered video by Jermaine Leef, Piotr Kwasnik, and Lizzie Rangihuna.

FFO: Gojira, The Hu, Shepherds Reign

Pre-order upcoming ‘Te Rā’ album
