Exceptionally dynamic and transcendental, Dream Sequence is a collection of music that spans across the styles of Radiohead and Trent Reznor to the likes of Sigur Ros or Deafheaven. Based out of Kolkata in India, composer / producer Deeparshi Roy may sound familiar from his time as the guitarist in Sitar Metal, but on this solo effort, he brings instrumental post-rock melancholy to ego-shattering heights.
“From Void to Vibrant Hues” actually has an upbeat trip-hop quality, which transitions to the full therapeutic journey of “To a Journey Mapped in Footprints on Stars” and “In Life’s Grand Theater.” I feel Mogwai-like nostalgia as the tracklisting flows on; each song is cozy, yet pulls at your heart. Sewn through Deeparshi‘s atmospheric compositions is the range of both minimalism and grandiose layers.

There’s songs that are beyond words on Dream Sequence; “Where Stars Align” crushes like heartbreak, as if God is an Astronaut collaborated with a mellowed out My Bloody Valentine. “Like a Waking Dream” is alternatively more aligned with anxious inspiration, somewhat reminiscent of the French electronic duo – Air.
While allowing Deeparshi to fill the space with cinematic melodies, drummer Joel Damian Rodrigues (Sitar Metal, Sei Hek) adds to the suspense and crescendos.
I would mostly describe Dream Sequence as film score music due to the building instrumental nature, but I would also argue that all twelve tracks are so evocative that visuals aren’t even necessary; I was emotionally hooked and captured immediately. Be in a meditative mindset before trying out this album, you will truly not regret it.
