Originally from Kathmandu, the Nepali grindcore five-piece Chepang immigrated to Queens in an effort to convey their distinct aggression to the masses of New York City. Sampling pop songs of their home country and singing in Nepali atop their noisy, grinding hardcore music is the foundation to their style that they refer to as immigrindcore.
On their new album, Chepang drills through the cement of the city, with the velocity of both Napalm Death and Wormrot. Such intensity is delivered by vocalist Bhotey Gore (BruteMukti), guitarist Kshitiz ‘Nails’ Moktan, bassist Dipesh ‘Mountain God’ Hirachan, drummer Gobinda ‘Hammer’ Senchury (Bandit), and noisemaker Wreckless Life.
Curious to experience Nepali grindcore live? The group will have their record release show on July 5th at TV Eye in Ridgewood, NY with Drugs of Faith, Vixen Maw, and Kartel.
Available now via Relapse Records, Jhyappa pushes the boundaries of the extreme. All nine tracks were recorded by Kevin Bernsten (Full of Hell, Integrity) and mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, Thou, Sumac).
