Earning a Chilean Grammy and praise from the likes of Slipknot to Mastodon, the hype for Mawiza‘s upcoming album is unsurmountable. ÜL will be dropping on July 18th via Season of Mist, featuring a guest appearance by Joe Duplantier of Gojira as well as mastering by Alan Douches (Converge, Chelsea Wolfe).
The fifth track on the record is titled “Mamüll Reke” – translated to “Just Like The Tree,” maintains folksy elements akin to The Hu or Sepultura. Fabiola Hidalgo (Liquen) offers vocals atop the combative, yet earthy piece. Directed by Andrés Hetzler, the music video for the song bring awareness to the destruction of Chilean forests by the hands of two major logging companies.
If you’re hooked on Mawiza‘s unique indigenous metal identity, be sure to also check out their stripped-down and unplugged version of “Mamüll Reke.” Vocalist / guitarist Awka sings in his Mapuche language while percussionist Txalkan plays the kültxung drum.
The four-piece (also including guitarist Karü and bassist Zewü) are heading to Europe for a tour alongside Chilean blackened djent act Ater, before making appearances at some festivals. If you’re near Germany, Mawiza are playing at Summer Breeze with other international groups like Vader, Crystal Lake, Gutslit, Coldrain, Hanabie, Abbie Falls, and more, but if you prefer Dynamo Fest in the Netherlands, Mawiza will also be there playing their dynamic folk metal.
