With members from the New Zealand and Vietnam metal scenes, including Liam David Wright (Rêvasseur), Duc Lun, Hieu Hoang, Tone Trung (Windrunner), and Viet Nhat, GAI 荄 is blowing up.
Their recent singles “VIVE LE DÉCEPTION” and “GUTTER RAT” perfectly capture the modern nü-deathcore sound – landing the opportunity to share the stage with Alphawolf and Within Destruction, as well as a signing to Blood Blast Distribution, a subsidiary of Nuclear Blast.
Drawing comparisons to Emmure, GAI 荄‘s most recent collaboration coincidentally features rowdy vocalist Frankie Palmeri. The band told us, “we got in touch with him about 8 months prior… we had a working relationship with him from a while back through hosting a pre-COVID show for Emmure. Our guitarist’s other band also supported Emmure on their Asia tour in 2019.”
“FALSE BOY” is cut-throat; genuinely, a threatening song from the first second. Halfway through, Frankie makes his appearance with his signature bittersweet rap-screams. “This track is about people who claim to support you, and smile at you, but they actually want something from you and will be the first in line to tear you down, if they could… key phrase: if they could,” explains the group.
GAI 荄 admits their favorite Emmure album is the 2007 debut Goodbye to the Gallows – “first time we heard that, we were pretty shook.”
